Every Official MILLENIUM 2027 Event in La Manche & Calvados

Ever since I published my complete guide to MILLENIUM 2027: European Year of the Normans, one question has appeared again and again.

"This all sounds brilliant... but what's actually happening while we're there?"

It's a fair question.

The official MILLENIUM 2027 programme is already enormous, with hundreds of accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events spread across Normandy and even beyond France. More are still being announced, which is wonderful if you're planning a holiday, although slightly less wonderful if you've somehow ended up with twenty browser tabs open, three cups of tea gone cold and absolutely no clearer idea what you should actually go and see.

So I've done the digging instead.

This page brings together the official MILLENIUM 2027 events taking place across La Manche and Calvados, the two departments many visitors will naturally combine into one unforgettable holiday. Rather than simply copying the official listings, I'll also point out why an event caught my eye, what you could pair it with nearby and where I've already written guides that might help you make even more of your visit.

Think of this as a living directory rather than a one-off blog post. I'll keep updating it whenever new accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events are announced, so it's worth bookmarking if you're planning a trip during 2027.

If you're looking for the bigger picture, including why 2027 matters, who William the Conqueror was, how to plan your itinerary and why I think La Manche makes such a good base, you'll probably want to start with my companion guide: MILLENIUM 2027: European Year of the Normans – The Complete Traveller's Guide

This page is the practical companion. Less history lesson, more "Right then... where shall we go tomorrow?" 😊

Looking for the Official Interactive Map?

The organisers maintain an excellent interactive map showing every accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event across Normandy and the wider European programme.

Rather than reinvent the wheel (or accidentally sending you to the wrong medieval abbey...), I'd always recommend using the official version as it's updated whenever new MILLENIUM 2027 events are added. View the Official MILLENIUM Interactive Event Map

Official MILLENIUM 2027 Events in La Manche

Now we're talking. 😊

Living in rural La Manche, I'm probably a little biased, but I genuinely think this department is one of the best places to experience MILLENIUM 2027.

Everyone knows about Bayeux, Caen and Falaise, and rightly so. They're central to William's story and some of the biggest MILLENIUM 2027 events will happen there. What often surprises visitors is just how much is happening over here in western Normandy as well.

Abbeys tucked away in quiet valleys. Medieval castles that suddenly spring to life. Theatre, exhibitions, concerts, storytelling, Viking-themed weekends, family activities and events celebrating places that many overseas visitors have never even heard of... yet.

That's one of the things I love about living here.

Guests often arrive with a carefully colour-coded itinerary covering all the famous places, then leave telling me that somewhere like Hambye, Pirou or Lessay ended up being their favourite day of the holiday.

I completely understand why.

La Manche doesn't shout for attention. It simply gets on with being quietly fascinating.

The official MILLENIUM 2027 programme reflects that perfectly. Some events celebrate William the Conqueror directly, while others explore Norman art, architecture, music, language, archaeology and the wider legacy of medieval Normandy. Together they tell a much richer story than 1066 alone ever could.

The events below are organised alphabetically by town to make them easier to browse when you're planning your trip.

AVRANCHES

Scriptoria

📅 3 April to 31 December 2027
📍 Scriptorial, Avranches

The Scriptoria exhibition runs for much of the year at the Scriptorial in Avranches, making it one of the longest-running accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events in La Manche.

Avranches already has a remarkable connection with medieval manuscripts, so it feels like an especially fitting place for an exhibition exploring the written world that shaped Norman history. If your image of the Middle Ages mainly involves castles and people hitting each other with large bits of metal, this is a gentle reminder that books, learning and painstaking craftsmanship helped shape the period just as much.

It's also wonderfully easy to combine with a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, which is only a short drive away, making this a very rewarding day out if you're interested in medieval history beyond the battlefield.

BARFLEUR

Trail the Mora

📅 19 to 20 June 2027
📍 Port of Barfleur

The wonderfully named Trail the Mora celebrates one of the most famous ships in Norman history, the Mora, presented to William the Conqueror before the invasion of England.

Barfleur is already one of my favourite fishing ports in Normandy. It's regularly listed among France's most beautiful villages and still feels like a working harbour rather than somewhere that's been polished purely for tourists.

If you've never visited before, I'd happily recommend allowing plenty of extra time. Wander the harbour, enjoy a seafood lunch, watch the fishing boats come and go and simply soak up one of the prettiest corners of the Cotentin Peninsula.

Sometimes the best part of a history-themed day out is ending it with excellent moules-frites overlooking the sea. William probably wouldn't recognise the menu, but I suspect he'd approve.

BARNEVILLE-CARTERET

If you're staying in western Cotentin, Barneville-Carteret is one of those places that's very easy to underestimate. On one visit it might simply be a stroll around the harbour followed by an ice cream on the promenade. Come back a few months later and you'll find yourself watching a theatre performance, joining a family activity or discovering another corner of Norman history through the MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

It's also one of the busiest La Manche locations in the official celebrations, with events running from February right through to the autumn.

That Bakes

📅 10 February 2027
📍 Médiathèque Clément Rosset, Barneville-Carteret

That Bakes is one of the earliest accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events in La Manche. Hosted at the town's media library, it helps kick off a packed programme of cultural activities that continues throughout the year.

If you're visiting Normandy outside the main summer season, it's reassuring to see that MILLENIUM 2027 isn't simply a July and August celebration. February visitors will already find the programme gathering momentum.

Echoes of Bygone Days

📅 17 to 18 April 2027
📍 Salle du Parc, Barneville-Carteret

The title alone makes me curious. Echoes of Bygone Days promises a journey into Normandy's medieval past, fitting perfectly into the wider MILLENIUM 2027 celebrations.

Barneville-Carteret is an easy place to spend a relaxed day. Explore the harbour, enjoy the beach if the weather behaves itself and then head to the event without feeling as though you're racing across the department.

Trollball

📅 20 April 2027
📍 Salle Omnisport, Barneville-Carteret

If medieval combat with a healthy dose of fun sounds more appealing than quietly reading museum panels, Trollball could be worth adding to your itinerary.

It's exactly the sort of event that reminds you MILLENIUM 2027 isn't only about exhibitions and lectures. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy history with a smile as well.

Let's Play Like We Used To

📅 21 April 2027
📍 Médiathèque Clément Rosset, Barneville-Carteret

Family-friendly events are woven throughout the official programme, and this looks like one designed to reconnect visitors with traditional games and shared experiences inspired by earlier times.

If you're travelling with children, it's refreshing to find activities where history isn't simply something to look at behind glass.

My Native Language

📅 21 April 2027
📍 Salle des Douits, Barneville-Carteret

Language has always been one of the lasting legacies of Norman history. This event explores that fascinating theme and reminds us that conquest doesn't just leave castles behind. It leaves words, expressions and cultures that continue evolving long after the battles have finished.

It's a lovely reminder that MILLENIUM 2027 isn't solely focused on William the Conqueror. The programme explores many different aspects of Norman identity.

Between Earth and Sea: The Norman Adventure

📅 8 to 9 August 2027
📍 Barneville-Carteret

The title feels perfectly suited to this stretch of coastline.

Sea and land have shaped Normandy for centuries, and nowhere is that easier to appreciate than here on the west coast, where harbours, beaches and ever-changing tides continue to define everyday life.

If you're holidaying during August, this would combine beautifully with time exploring the Cotentin Peninsula.

BRÉHAL

The Tales of Twilight

📅 27 to 28 July 2027
📍 Vieille Église de Saint-Martin-le-Vieux, Bréhal

This travelling storytelling event also comes to Bréhal, bringing medieval tales into one of those atmospheric old settings that Normandy does rather well.

If you enjoy events that feel more intimate than grand, this is worth noting. Not every MILLENIUM 2027 moment needs a castle, a battlefield or someone in armour making enthusiastic clanking noises.

BRICQUEBEC-EN-COTENTIN

Roger the First, Another Conquest

📅 11 to 12 September 2027
📍 Cour du Château, Bricquebec-en-Cotentin

Bricquebec's château courtyard makes a suitably dramatic setting for Roger the First, Another Conquest, an event that looks beyond William to explore another chapter of Norman ambition.

It's events like this that make MILLENIUM 2027 far more than a simple anniversary. The Norman story doesn't stop at one duke, one battle or one coastline. It keeps wandering off across Europe, behaving rather like history does when nobody has labelled it neatly enough.

BRIX

On the Trail of Bruce, Companion of William

📅 6 August 2027
📍 Salle Socio-Culturelle, Brix

One of the nicest surprises about the programme is that not every event revolves around William himself.

This event shines a light on one of the people connected with the Norman Conquest, broadening the story beyond the familiar names that most of us learnt at school.

CARENTAN-LES-MARAIS

Carentan in the Ducal Era

📅 17 April to 17 October 2027
📍 Le Blockhaus – Escape Game, Carentan-les-Marais

Many visitors know Carentan because of the events of June 1944, but its history stretches back many centuries before the Second World War.

This long-running MILLENIUM 2027 exhibition explores the town during the ducal period, offering a fascinating opportunity to discover another chapter in its story.

If you've already read my guide to Normandy is not just about D-Day and WWII, you'll know why I enjoy encouraging visitors to look beyond the twentieth century as well.

CERISY-LA-FORÊT

Cerisy-la-Forêt Medieval Festival

📅 11 to 12 July 2026
📍 Cerisy-la-Forêt

This Cerisy-la-Forêt medieval festival formed part of the MILLENIUM Tour 2026, giving visitors an early taste of the atmosphere building towards MILLENIUM 2027.

With demonstrations, medieval colour and family-friendly activity, it fits neatly into the wider story of Normandy bringing its older history back into everyday life. Not permanently, thankfully. Chainmail is rarely practical for supermarket queues.

CERISY-LA-SALLE

1027–2027: The World Where Guillaume Is Born

📅 9 to 13 June 2027
📍 Centre Culturel International de Cerisy

A thousand years after William's birth, this multi-day event explores the world into which he arrived in 1027.

Rather than concentrating solely on one individual, it looks at the wider political, cultural and social landscape of Normandy at the beginning of the eleventh century.

If you're fascinated by Norman history beyond the famous battle of 1066, this looks like one of the most intriguing events in the La Manche programme.

CHANTELOUP

Two Kings for the Crown

📅 25 to 26 June 2027
📍 Château de Chanteloup

Few settings are more appropriate for a medieval-themed event than a château, and Two Kings for the Crown promises exactly that atmosphere.

If you're already exploring central La Manche, this makes an easy addition to a weekend discovering castles, abbeys and the Norman countryside away from the busiest tourist routes.

CHAULIEU

The Twilight Tales

📅 17 July 2027
📍 Château de Chaulieu

Storytelling has always played an important part in keeping history alive, and there's something rather fitting about hearing medieval tales within the grounds of a château.

Events like this show another side of MILLENIUM 2027, one that's less about major exhibitions and more about atmosphere, imagination and bringing old stories back to life.

CHERBOURG-EN-COTENTIN

Cherbourg is often associated with ferries, naval history and impressive maritime museums, yet during MILLENIUM 2027 it also becomes an important cultural hub with theatre, circus and outdoor performances adding another dimension to the city.

SPRING – International Festival of New Circus Forms in Normandy

📅 17 March 2027
📍 Cherbourg Town Centre

MILLENIUM 2027 doesn't limit itself to medieval re-enactments. Contemporary performance also has an important place in the programme, and the internationally recognised SPRING festival brings creative circus to the streets of Cherbourg.

SPRING – International Festival of New Circus Forms in Normandy

📅 31 March to 4 April 2027
📍 La Brèche, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin

La Brèche has become one of France's leading circus venues, making it a fitting location for another accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event.

Events like this make it clear that the celebrations aren't confined to history alone, with contemporary arts sitting comfortably alongside exhibitions, archaeology and medieval heritage.

COUTANCES

I admit I'm completely biased here. Coutances is our nearest town, barely five minutes from the gîte, so it's somewhere I know well. Guests often arrive planning to spend an hour here before moving on. Quite a few end up staying much longer.

The magnificent cathedral dominates the skyline for miles, the old streets are full of character and, during MILLENIUM 2027, the town adds contemporary art and exhibitions to its already impressive historic setting.

If you've never visited before, I'd genuinely recommend giving Coutances more time than you first planned.

War and Peace

📅 10 June to 18 December 2027
📍 Musée Quesnel-Morinière, Coutances

Running for more than six months, War and Peace is one of the longest MILLENIUM 2027 exhibitions in La Manche.

Rather than concentrating on a single event or individual, the title suggests a broader exploration of conflict and society, making it an interesting companion to many of the region's castles, abbeys and historic sites.

Because the exhibition runs well beyond the summer holidays, it's equally appealing whether you're visiting in June, September or even towards the end of the year.

Biennale Perspectives

📅 26 June to 31 August 2027
📍 Espace Saint-Nicolas, Coutances

The Biennale Perspectives brings contemporary artistic interpretation into the MILLENIUM 2027 programme, showing that Norman heritage continues to inspire artists a thousand years after William's birth.

I like this balance. History isn't simply preserved; it's continually reinterpreted through new ideas, exhibitions and creative work.

GRANVILLE

Granville has a habit of surprising people.

Some visitors know it because it was Christian Dior's birthplace. Others arrive for the ferry to the Channel Islands. Spend a full day here, though, and you'll discover a fascinating upper town, impressive sea views, excellent restaurants and a history stretching back well before Dior was sketching elegant dresses.

It's also one of the busiest MILLENIUM 2027 locations in La Manche.

👉 Related guide: Granville: A Perfect Coastal Day Out from the Gîte

Guillaume & Harold

📅 15 to 16 February 2027
📍 L'Archipel, Granville

This theatrical production explores one of history's most famous rivalries, bringing William and Harold to the stage through the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

For anyone already interested in the Norman Conquest, it's an appealing way of experiencing the story away from museum displays and interpretation boards.

Harold: The Game

📅 6 to 7 April 2027
📍 L'Archipel, Granville

History and gaming aren't combinations you see every day, which immediately makes this one stand out.

One thing I particularly like about the official programme is its willingness to present Norman history in different ways. Not everything has to be an exhibition or lecture to spark curiosity.

GRATOT

Summer 1935: A Norman Village Celebrates William the Conqueror

📅 13 to 15 August 2027
📍 Manoir de Chanteloup, Gratot

This immediately caught my attention because it doesn't transport visitors back to the eleventh century. Instead, it looks at how people celebrated William the Conqueror nearly a century ago.

That slightly different perspective is one of the reasons I'm enjoying exploring the official programme. Some events examine medieval Normandy itself, while others explore how later generations remembered and celebrated that history.

HAMBYE

If you've stayed with us before, you'll know Hambye appears in conversation rather a lot.

Guests sometimes ask whether it's worth visiting when there are larger abbeys elsewhere in Normandy. My answer is almost always yes.

Hambye Abbey has a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere, it's beautifully preserved and somehow still feels like somewhere people discover rather than somewhere they're simply told to visit.

MILLENIUM 2027 gives visitors another excellent reason to make the journey.

👉 Related guides: Two Abbeys in One Trip: Hambye & La LucerneHambye Abbey Cultural Events

The Signs of a New Era

📅 2 May to 1 November 2027
📍 Hambye Abbey

Running across much of the main visitor season, The Signs of a New Era explores one of Normandy's most atmospheric abbeys through the lens of MILLENIUM 2027.

If you're looking for somewhere that combines remarkable architecture with a quieter, more reflective experience than some of the headline attractions, Hambye is difficult to beat.

I'd happily pair this with nearby La Lucerne Abbey for a thoroughly enjoyable day exploring two very different religious sites.

HAUTEVILLE-LA-GUICHARD

On the Trail of the Norman Conquerors

📅 7 August 2027
📍 Musée Tancrède

Hauteville-la-Guichard holds an important place in Norman history, making it an especially fitting location for this MILLENIUM 2027 event.

Anyone following the story of William and the wider Norman world will almost certainly enjoy adding this to their itinerary.

LA HAGUE

Guillaume & Harold

📅 5 to 6 April 2027
📍 Espace Culturel Michel Canoville

This travelling production appears in several Normandy locations during MILLENIUM 2027, giving visitors the opportunity to see it wherever they happen to be staying.

It's a thoughtful feature of the official programme. Rather than concentrating everything in the largest cities, many productions travel across the region.

LA LUCERNE-D'OUTREMER

La Lucerne is one of those places that deserves to be much better known outside Normandy.

The abbey is beautiful, peaceful and one of my favourite recommendations for guests looking to escape the busiest tourist routes.

During MILLENIUM 2027 it also hosts one of the year's longest-running exhibitions.

👉 Related guide: Two Abbeys in One Trip: Hambye & La Lucerne

The Embroidery of Henri I Beauclerc

📅 1 April to 31 December 2027
📍 Abbaye de la Lucerne

Running for almost the entire year, this exhibition explores the story of Henry I Beauclerc through embroidery, echoing one of Normandy's most famous artistic traditions.

If you've already visited Bayeux, it's fascinating to see how textile art continues to play a role in telling Norman stories a thousand years later.

Viking Village

📅 25 to 26 July 2026
📍 La Lucerne-d'Outremer

Although this takes place during the 2026 preview programme rather than the main 2027 celebrations, it's an excellent opportunity to experience the atmosphere that MILLENIUM 2027 is building towards.

Living history, demonstrations and Viking culture make this an enjoyable event for families as well as history enthusiasts.

👉 Related guide: History of Normandy – Vikings in Normandy

LA MEURDRAQUIÈRE

On the Traces of the Meurdrac, Family of Conquerors

📅 16 July to 31 December 2027
📍 La Meurdraquière

MILLENIUM 2027 has a real knack for introducing visitors to places that rarely appear in international guidebooks. La Meurdraquière is a perfect example.

This long-running event explores the Meurdrac family and their links to the Norman Conquest, adding another thread to the remarkable tapestry of families whose stories intertwined with William's.

It's exactly the sort of event that encourages visitors to leave the main tourist trail for an afternoon and discover somewhere entirely new.

LESSAY

Lessay Abbey is one of those places that quietly leaves an impression. It isn't trying to compete with Mont-Saint-Michel or the great abbeys around Caen. Instead, it has a calm confidence that comes from nearly a thousand years of history.

The abbey already deserves a visit. During MILLENIUM 2027 it becomes even more rewarding.

Holy Guillaume

📅 19 September 2027
📍 Parvis de l'Abbaye, Lessay

This accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event places William the Conqueror back into one of Normandy's most atmospheric religious settings.

Lessay has long been an important stopping point for travellers and pilgrims, making it a wonderfully appropriate location for an event celebrating Norman heritage.

Reverence

📅 10 June to 10 July 2026
📍 Abbaye de la Sainte-Trinité, Lessay

Reverence brought the MILLENIUM preview programme to Lessay Abbey, one of La Manche's most impressive religious sites.

Lessay is already worth visiting for the abbey alone, but events like this show exactly why MILLENIUM 2027 works so well across rural Normandy. The setting does half the storytelling before anyone has even started speaking.

Discovery Rally – Following in the Footsteps of the Dukes and Barons of Normandy in Cotentin

📅 10 July 2027
📍 Abbaye de la Sainte-Trinité, Lessay

If you enjoy exploring rather than simply observing, this discovery rally looks particularly appealing.

Travelling through La Manche quickly reminds you that history isn't confined to museums. It's woven into villages, lanes, churches and landscapes that have changed surprisingly little over the centuries.

👉 Related guide: Normandy's History Is Mostly Outside – Hands-On, Non-Museum Things to Do in the Manche

LES PIEUX

SPRING – International Festival of New Forms of Circus in Normandy

📅 31 March 2027
📍 Le Podium, Les Pieux

The internationally recognised SPRING festival appears in several locations across Normandy during MILLENIUM 2027, bringing contemporary circus to audiences throughout the region.

It's another reminder that the programme celebrates creativity just as enthusiastically as history.

The Vikings Film Concert

📅 9 to 10 April 2027
📍 Le Podium, Les Pieux

A film concert dedicated to the Vikings feels wonderfully appropriate in Normandy, where the story of Scandinavian settlers still echoes across the landscape more than a thousand years later.

If you've already enjoyed exploring the Viking origins of Normandy, this makes a natural addition to your itinerary.

👉 Related guide: History of Normandy – Vikings in Normandy

PIROU

If there's one place that already knows how to throw a medieval celebration, it's Pirou.

The château has been hosting one of Normandy's best-loved medieval festivals for years, so it feels entirely at home within the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

Even outside festival weekends, Pirou Castle is well worth visiting.

👉 Related guide: Médiévales de Pirou

The Embroidery of Pirou Told to Children

📅 1 April to 31 December 2027
📍 Château Fort de Pirou

Inspired by the famous Pirou embroidery, this family-focused exhibition introduces younger visitors to Norman history in an engaging and accessible way.

It's lovely to see children included so naturally throughout the MILLENIUM 2027 programme. History has a habit of becoming much more memorable when it feels like an adventure rather than homework.

QUETTREVILLE-SUR-SIENNE

Here we are

📅 15 July to 5 September 2027
📍 La Minoterie

Running throughout much of the summer, Here we are brings another artistic dimension to MILLENIUM 2027 in rural La Manche.

It's exactly the sort of event that rewards visitors who venture beyond the headline destinations and spend time exploring Normandy's smaller communities.

MONT-SAINT-MICHEL

MILLENIUM Tour 2026 at Mont-Saint-Michel

📅 13 to 16 August 2026
📍 Mont-Saint-Michel

Mont-Saint-Michel was one of the major stops on the MILLENIUM Tour 2026, which helped introduce visitors to the medieval atmosphere and wider heritage themes leading into MILLENIUM 2027.

It is hard to imagine a more dramatic setting. If Normandy wanted to remind people it can do medieval splendour without trying too hard, Mont-Saint-Michel was always going to make the shortlist. Subtle it is not. Effective, absolutely.

👉 Related guide: A Day Trip to Mont-Saint-Michel

REGNÉVILLE-SUR-MER

The Duke and the Poetess: When Lucie Delarue-Mardrus Tells the Story of Guillaume

📅 19 to 25 July 2027
📍 Château de Regnéville-sur-Mer

Regnéville-sur-Mer already enjoys one of the prettiest settings on the west coast, and the château provides a wonderful backdrop for this literary interpretation of William the Conqueror.

Events like this demonstrate just how varied the official programme really is. Literature, theatre and poetry sit comfortably alongside archaeology and medieval history.

SAINT-HILAIRE-DU-HARCOUËT

The Twilight Tales

📅 3 June 2027
📍 Centre Culturel La Verrière

This travelling storytelling event appears in several locations across Normandy during MILLENIUM 2027, allowing different communities to enjoy the same imaginative interpretation of Norman history.

SAINT-LÔ

Saint-Lô is another town whose history is often viewed through the lens of the Second World War. That's understandable, but it's far from the whole story.

MILLENIUM 2027 shines a light on the centuries that came before, helping visitors discover a much older Saint-Lô.

👉 Related guide: Normandy is not just about D-Day and WWII – More Historical Sites and Hidden Gems of La Manche

The Echo of the Centuries: Chronicles of Medieval Saint-Lô

📅 2 April to 31 December 2027
📍 Musée d'Art et d'Histoire

This long-running exhibition explores Saint-Lô during the medieval period, reminding visitors that the town's story stretches back many centuries before 1944.

It's exactly the sort of exhibition I enjoy recommending because it broadens people's understanding of Normandy rather than simply reinforcing what they already know.

Béhourd Tournaments

📅 13 to 14 November 2027
📍 Pôle Hippique, Saint-Lô

If you've never seen medieval full-contact combat, this could be quite an introduction.

Béhourd combines historical armour with competitive fighting, producing a spectacle that's noisy, energetic and considerably more entertaining than two historians arguing politely over footnotes.

Not that there's anything wrong with historians, of course. Someone has to explain what everyone else is hitting each other about.

SAINT-PAIR-SUR-MER

SPRING – International Festival of New Forms of Circus in Normandy

📅 26 to 28 March 2027
📍 Place de Loisirs

The SPRING festival continues its journey across Normandy with performances in the seaside resort of Saint-Pair-sur-Mer.

It's an appealing combination: fresh sea air, a walk along the promenade and contemporary circus as part of the official MILLENIUM 2027 celebrations.

TESSY-BOCAGE

Stone Rivers

📅 22 May to 1 September 2027
📍 Usine Utopik

Stone Rivers brings contemporary artistic interpretation into the MILLENIUM 2027 programme, proving once again that this celebration isn't simply looking backwards.

Normandy's history continues to inspire artists working today, making exhibitions like this a fascinating contrast to the medieval sites themselves.

VALOGNES

The Twilight Tales

📅 3 April 2027
📍 Musée Régional du Cidre

Combining storytelling with one of Normandy's favourite local products feels wonderfully appropriate.

Valognes has long been associated with cider, and if an afternoon of Norman tales happens to be followed by a glass of the local speciality, I certainly won't judge. Research occasionally requires sacrifices. 🍎

VAINS

Feast of Saint Leonard

📅 2 to 4 July 2027
📍 Prieuré Saint Leonard

Set close to the shores of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, this three-day celebration combines heritage, history and one of Normandy's most spectacular landscapes.

If you're already planning a visit to Mont-Saint-Michel, it's well worth seeing whether your dates coincide with this accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event.

👉 Related guide: A Day Trip to Mont-Saint-Michel

That completes the official MILLENIUM 2027 events currently announced across La Manche. As new accredited events are added to the programme, I'll continue updating this guide so it remains one of the most comprehensive English-language resources for planning a MILLENIUM 2027 holiday in western Normandy.

Official MILLENIUM 2027 Events in Calvados

If La Manche quietly gets on with things, Calvados is where many of the headline names appear.

Caen, Bayeux and Falaise are woven into William the Conqueror's story, so it's no surprise that the department plays a central role in MILLENIUM 2027.

The nice thing is that you don't have to choose between the two departments. Staying in La Manche makes many of these events perfectly manageable as day trips, leaving you free to return to quieter roads, smaller villages and perhaps a slightly less frantic search for a parking space at the end of the day.

ARGENCES

Medieval William in Val ès Dunes

📅 26 to 27 June 2027
📍 Prairie Rue de Troarn, Argences

Few places are more closely linked to William's early rise than Val ès Dunes. Long before the events of 1066, this battlefield helped secure his future as Duke of Normandy, making it one of the defining moments of his life.

Seeing that story brought back to life where it actually happened makes this one of the standout MILLENIUM 2027 events for anyone interested in Norman history.

👉 Related guide: Walking in the Footsteps of William the Conqueror – A Local's Guide

BAYEUX

Bayeux hardly needs an introduction.

Most people arrive for the Bayeux Tapestry and quickly discover they've underestimated the town itself. Medieval streets, excellent restaurants, handsome stone buildings and one of Normandy's finest cathedrals make it somewhere that's very easy to spend an entire day without looking at your watch.

During MILLENIUM 2027, Bayeux becomes even busier, with performances, concerts and conferences adding to its already impressive historical appeal.

In the Duchy of Normandy

📅 7 to 8 May 2027
📍 Auditorium de Bayeux

This two-day event explores the Duchy of Normandy itself, looking beyond individual personalities to the wider society that shaped medieval Europe.

If you've already enjoyed reading about Norman history, this feels like one of the key events in the Bayeux programme.

The Poètobus: The Conquering Poetry

📅 19 June 2027
📍 Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Bayeux

Poetry may not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions William the Conqueror, which is exactly why events like this are so refreshing.

MILLENIUM 2027 isn't trying to tell one story in one way. Literature, theatre, music and art all have their place alongside castles and battlefields.

From Norway to Normandy

📅 30 June 2027
📍 Église Saint-Patrice, Bayeux

This event follows the remarkable journey from Viking Scandinavia to medieval Normandy, reminding visitors that William's story began long before he was born.

It's a fascinating theme that ties together the Viking origins of Normandy with the later Norman world.

Bayeux Medieval Festival

📅 3 to 5 July 2026
📍 Bayeux

This official MILLENIUM Tour 2026 preview event brings the medieval festival programme to Bayeux ahead of the main 2027 celebrations.

Concert of the Three Nations

📅 30 to 31 October 2027
📍 Bayeux

Following its performance in Caen, the Concert of the Three Nations continues in Bayeux, adding another musical highlight to the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

History is often told through documents, artefacts and architecture, but music has always travelled across borders too. This concert celebrates the shared cultural connections that grew from Normandy's remarkable past.

Highlighting of Bayeux Cathedral

📅 12 December 2027 to 1 January 2028
📍 Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Bayeux

The MILLENIUM 2027 celebrations draw to a spectacular close with the illumination of Bayeux Cathedral, one of Normandy's finest medieval buildings.

Seeing the cathedral transformed by light feels like an appropriate finale to a year celebrating a thousand years of Norman history. If you're visiting Normandy over Christmas or New Year, this is a memorable way to round off your trip.

CAEN

If Bayeux tells one chapter of William's story, Caen tells another.

William transformed the city during his reign, founding both the Abbaye aux Hommes and Abbaye aux Dames and helping shape the city visitors see today. It's therefore no surprise that Caen hosts one of the largest collections of accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events anywhere in Normandy.

You could quite happily spend several days here during 2027 and still not experience everything on offer.

Presentation Evening Les Boréales

📅 10 to 11 October 2026
📍 Théâtre de Caen, Caen

This official MILLENIUM 2026 preview event takes place at the Théâtre de Caen.

FÈNO

📅 16 to 19 October 2026
📍 Parc des Expositions de Caen

This official MILLENIUM 2026 preview listing is separate from the shorter FÊNO 2026 tour entry and should not be merged with it.

The Vikings Film Concert

📅 14 November 2026
📍 Comédie de Caen, CDN de Normandie, Hérouville-Saint-Clair

This official MILLENIUM 2026 preview event brings the Viking theme to the Comédie de Caen programme.

North Wind – Normandy Rouen Orchestra Opera

📅 22 November 2026
📍 Comédie de Caen, CDN de Normandie, Hérouville-Saint-Clair

This special performance forms part of the official MILLENIUM Tour 2026 preview programme, offering an early taste of the cultural celebrations leading into MILLENIUM 2027.

Music has always travelled across borders more easily than armies, and Normandy's links with the wider world continue to inspire artists today. Performed by the Normandy Rouen Orchestra, North Wind brings contemporary music into the official programme while reflecting the region's long maritime and cultural connections.

If you're already planning to visit Caen during the preview events, this offers a very different perspective on Normandy's heritage, proving that the story of the Normans continues to inspire far more than medieval re-enactments.

The Millennium Doors

📅 20 to 27 February 2027
📍 Abbaye aux Dames

Hosted within one of William's greatest foundations, The Millennium Doors feels like an especially fitting addition to the official programme.

The setting alone makes this one worth considering if you're planning time in Caen.

Emma of Normandy, the First Crown

📅 4 March 2027
📍 Studio 24

Emma of Normandy remains one of the most influential figures in Norman history, yet she's often overshadowed by William himself.

It's good to see MILLENIUM 2027 shining a light on other remarkable people whose stories deserve far wider recognition.

Guillaume & Harold

📅 9 to 10 March 2027
📍 Théâtre des Cordes

This acclaimed production continues its journey through Normandy with performances in Caen, one of the cities most closely associated with William the Conqueror himself.

The Damnation of Faust

📅 14 March 2027
📍 Théâtre de Caen

MILLENIUM 2027 embraces far more than straightforward historical interpretation, and theatrical productions like this help create a cultural programme that appeals to a wide audience.

Stone of Caen & Water

📅 8 to 25 April 2027
📍 Église Saint-Sauveur

Caen stone helped build castles, abbeys and cathedrals across Normandy and England, so it's entirely appropriate that it should feature within the official programme.

Once you start noticing this distinctive pale limestone, you'll see it almost everywhere.

The Epic of the Norman Dialects Across the World

📅 16 to 17 April 2027
📍 Maison de la Recherche en Sciences Humaines

Language is another lasting legacy of Norman influence, making this one of the more unusual and thought-provoking events within MILLENIUM 2027.

Echoes of a Thousand Years

📅 17 to 18 April 2027
📍 Zénith de Caen

The title alone suggests a celebration on a suitably grand scale, making this one of the flagship cultural events taking place in Caen during the anniversary year.

Gustave Meets Normandy

📅 6 to 10 May 2027
📍 Gustave, Grâce de Dieu

One of several contemporary artistic events within the programme, demonstrating again that MILLENIUM 2027 celebrates living culture alongside medieval heritage.

Guillaume and the Heirs of Courage

📅 22 to 23 May 2027
📍 Conservatoire de Caen

The title immediately suggests another thoughtful look at William's legacy and the generations that followed him.

The Travels of Orpheus

📅 7 June 2027
📍 Abbaye aux Dames

Music forms an important part of the MILLENIUM 2027 programme, and performances within the abbey should provide an especially memorable setting.

1027–2027: The World Where Guillaume Is Born

📅 9 June 2027
📍 Château de Caen

Building on the wider theme explored elsewhere in Normandy, this event looks beyond William himself to understand the world that shaped his childhood.

Becoming a Duke in Normandy at the Time of the Birth of William "the Bastard"

📅 9 June 2027
📍 Château de Caen

If you're particularly interested in the political landscape of early medieval Normandy, this looks like one of the key talks in the entire programme.

Navigating the Flow of Words

📅 10 to 18 June 2027
📍 Maison de la Recherche en Sciences Humaines, Caen

This Caen event adds another thoughtful, language-focused strand to the MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

Words matter in Norman history. They travelled with people, shifted across borders, settled into other languages and quietly kept influencing daily life long after the swords had been put away. Frankly, words have always been harder to tidy up than castles.

If you're interested in the cultural legacy of Normandy rather than only the castles-and-conquest side of the story, this is one to add to the Caen section.

Arrival of Rowing Boats from the Viking Countries

📅 12 to 13 June 2027
📍 Mondeville

Few events connect modern Normandy with its Viking roots quite as vividly as the arrival of traditional rowing boats from Scandinavia.

I'm looking forward to seeing the photographs from this one.

Push

📅 16 June 2027
📍 Théâtre de Caen

Another reminder that the official programme reaches well beyond medieval history, with contemporary performance sitting comfortably alongside Normandy's older heritage.

The Poetbus: The Conquering Poetry

📅 17 June 2027
📍 Musée de Normandie

A creative literary interpretation of Norman history within the walls of Caen Castle makes this another particularly appealing event for visitors interested in culture as well as history.

Family Affairs

📅 2 to 3 July 2027
📍 Théâtre des Cordes, Caen

Not every story connected with Normandy revolves around kings, battles and castles. Families, relationships and the people behind history matter just as much, and productions like this help broaden the human side of the MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

The 50th Battle Conference on Anglo-Norman Studies

📅 19 to 23 July 2027
📍 Abbaye aux Dames, Caen

This internationally respected conference has become one of the highlights of the academic calendar for medieval historians, making its inclusion within MILLENIUM 2027 especially fitting.

If you're the sort of person who happily disappears down historical rabbit holes (I completely understand...), this could be one of the most significant events taking place anywhere during the celebrations.

To Be Norman

📅 1 September to 30 October 2027
📍 Musée de Normandie, Château de Caen

The title asks a wonderfully simple question with a surprisingly complicated answer.

What does it actually mean to be Norman?

After exploring castles, abbeys, villages and the wider MILLENIUM 2027 programme, you'll probably leave with your own answer as well.

THOUSAND BASTARDS

📅 6 to 17 September 2027
📍 La Coopérative Chorégraphique – Sépulcre, Caen

This official MILLENIUM 2027 event brings another contemporary performance strand into Caen's accredited programme.

Emma of Normandy, Northern Wedding

📅 1 to 2 October 2027
📍 Abbaye aux Dames, Caen

William the Conqueror may dominate the headlines, but Normandy produced remarkable figures long before his birth. Emma of Normandy was one of them.

Queen of both England and Denmark, Emma helped shape the politics of northern Europe during the eleventh century. This event explores her extraordinary life and reminds visitors that the Norman story was never the work of one person alone.

I particularly like seeing Emma given centre stage. History has a habit of quietly overlooking fascinating women until someone decides it's time to put that right.

William the Conqueror: The Origins of State Building

📅 15 October 2027
📍 Caen

This event explores one of William's most enduring legacies: not simply conquest, but government.

Winning a kingdom is one thing. Running it afterwards is considerably harder, and William's administrative reforms influenced both Normandy and England for generations.

If you're interested in how medieval rulers shaped the modern state, this looks like one of the more thought-provoking additions to the MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

👉 Related guide: History of Normandy – Ducal Normandy and The House of Normandy

Concert of the Three Nations

📅 29 to 30 October 2027
📍 Caen

Music has become an important thread running through the official MILLENIUM 2027 celebrations, and the Concert of the Three Nations continues that theme.

Celebrating the cultural connections forged by Norman history, it provides a welcome change of pace after castles, exhibitions and medieval re-enactments.

Between Threads and Pixels: The Bayeux Tapestry, a Millennium-Old Work in the Digital Age

📅 1 to 3 December 2027
📍 Université, Caen

Few works of medieval art are as instantly recognisable as the Bayeux Tapestry, and this conference explores how modern digital technology is transforming the way researchers study, preserve and share one of Normandy's greatest treasures.

Bringing together specialists from a range of disciplines, the event looks at how high-resolution imaging, digital analysis and new research techniques are revealing fresh insights into a masterpiece created almost a thousand years ago. It's a fascinating reminder that even one of the world's best-known medieval artefacts still has new stories to tell.

If you've already visited the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, this event offers an opportunity to discover how cutting-edge technology is helping historians, conservators and researchers continue to unlock its secrets.

COSSESSEVILLE

Château Ganne, 1000 Years of Shared Heritage

📅 19 to 20 June 2027
📍 Château Ganne, Cossesseville

Château Ganne gives Calvados another wonderfully atmospheric MILLENIUM 2027 setting away from the biggest towns.

This two-day event celebrates a thousand years of shared heritage, making it a strong choice if you like historic sites that feel rooted in the landscape rather than polished into visitor-centre perfection.

It also gives you a good excuse to explore inland Calvados, which is never a bad thing. Normandy has a habit of hiding excellent places just beyond the obvious route. Very inconsiderate of it, really.

CRÈVECŒUR-EN-AUGE

The Chess Pieces of Crèvecœur Castle

📅 28 March to 7 November 2027
📍 Château de Crèvecœur

Running for much of the visitor season, this exhibition uses the imagery of chess to explore medieval power, politics and strategy.

Considering how many political moves William had to make during his lifetime, chess feels like a remarkably appropriate metaphor.

CREULLY-SUE-SEULLES

Around Guillaume and Mathilde

📅 31 May to 24 September 2027
📍 Château de Creully

William the Conqueror may dominate most conversations, but Queen Matilda was every bit as remarkable.

This exhibition explores their partnership, reminding visitors that history is rarely shaped by one person alone.

In the Duchy of Normandy

📅 Until 6 May 2027
📍 Château de Creully

Continuing into the anniversary year, this exhibition explores the wider Duchy of Normandy and provides useful context before diving into the many other MILLENIUM 2027 events across the region.

DEAUVILLE

Guillaume & Harold

📅 12 to 13 February 2027
📍 Les Franciscaines, Deauville

The travelling production reaches the elegant seaside resort of Deauville, showing once again how widely the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme spreads across Normandy.

DIVES-SUR-MER

Dives-sur-Mer occupies a special place in William's story. Tradition holds that this was one of the gathering points for the fleet before the crossing to England in 1066, making it one of the most historically significant locations in Calvados.

Agathe and Grandma on the Conquest of Dives-sur-Mer

📅 15 July 2027
📍 Parc de la Roseraie

Family-friendly storytelling continues to play an important role throughout MILLENIUM 2027, helping younger visitors discover Normandy's remarkable history in imaginative ways.

Crossed Perspectives on William the Conqueror

📅 9 to 29 August 2027
📍 Médiathèque Jacques Prévert

William has been viewed in many different ways over the last thousand years. Hero, conqueror, ruler, politician and sometimes villain, depending on which side of the Channel you happen to be standing.

Events exploring those different perspectives are exactly the sort of thing I enjoy seeing within the official programme.

DOUVRES-LA-DÉLIVERANDE

If medieval history is your thing, you'll probably notice Douvres-la-Délivrande appearing repeatedly throughout the official programme.

The Baronnie hosts a fascinating series of talks spread across much of the year, making it an excellent destination for visitors wanting to explore specific aspects of Norman life in greater depth.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie

📅 January to May 2027

The lecture series includes:

  • 28 January – Being a Knight and Waging War in the 11th to 13th Centuries
  • 25 February – Harold and William: England on the Eve of the Battle of Hastings
  • 25 March – 1204: The End of the Anglo-Norman Empire Founded by William
  • 27 May – Drinking in Normandy in the Middle Ages

I rather like the variety here. One evening you can immerse yourself in medieval warfare, another in politics, and eventually discover what people were actually drinking after all that conquering.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie – Being a Knight and Waging War in the 11th–13th Centuries

📅 28 January 2027
📍 Baronnie de Douvres-la-Délivrande

The popular Thursdays of the Baronnie lecture series begins by exploring what life was really like for medieval knights between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries.

Films tend to suggest everyone spent their time charging dramatically across fields on horseback. Reality was usually rather more complicated... and considerably muddier.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie – Harold and William: England on the Eve of the Battle of Hastings

📅 25 February 2027
📍 Baronnie de Douvres-la-Délivrande

This fascinating talk examines England immediately before the events of 1066, placing Harold and William into their wider political context rather than simply retelling the battle everyone already knows.

Understanding what happened before Hastings often makes the battle itself far more interesting.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie – 1204: The End of the Anglo-Norman Empire Founded by William

📅 25 March 2027
📍 Baronnie de Douvres-la-Délivrande

William created an Anglo-Norman world, but it didn't last forever. This lecture explores how that remarkable cross-Channel empire eventually came to an end in 1204.

It's a useful reminder that history doesn't stop once the famous battle is over. Sometimes the aftermath is just as important.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie – Drinking in Normandy in the Middle Ages

📅 27 May 2027
📍 Baronnie de Douvres-la-Délivrande

History occasionally becomes much more approachable when food and drink are involved.

This entertaining lecture explores what people drank in medieval Normandy, offering another glimpse into everyday life rather than kings, battles and political intrigue.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie: Writing in the Middle Ages

📅 28 October 2027
📍 La Baronnie, Douvres-la-Délivrande

The popular Thursdays of the Baronnie lecture series continues with an evening dedicated to medieval writing and manuscripts.

It's a fascinating reminder that Normandy's legacy wasn't built solely with castles and cathedrals. Scribes, scholars and storytellers played their part too, preserving ideas that still shape our understanding of the medieval world.

The Thursdays of the Baronnie: William in Literature and Cinema

📅 25 November 2027
📍 La Baronnie, Douvres-la-Délivrande

The final lecture in the series explores how William the Conqueror has been portrayed through books and film over the centuries.

It's a fitting subject to end the programme. Every generation seems to rediscover William in its own way, proving that even after a thousand years, people are still debating exactly who he was and what his legacy means.

FALAISE

If William the Conqueror has a spiritual home, it's Falaise.

This is where he was born around 1027, and it's impossible to separate the town from his remarkable story. During MILLENIUM 2027, Falaise naturally becomes one of the focal points of the celebrations.

Falaise Medieval Festival

📅 8 to 9 August 2027
📍 Falaise

If you're only able to visit one major medieval festival during MILLENIUM 2027, this is likely to be high on many people's shortlist.

There's something rather special about celebrating William's thousandth anniversary in the town where his story began.

HONFLEUR

Crossed Perspectives on William the Conqueror

📅 1 June to 3 July 2027
📍 Médiathèque Maurice Delange

One of Normandy's prettiest harbour towns also joins the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme with this thoughtful exhibition exploring William through different historical viewpoints.

HÉROUVILLE-SAINT-CLAIR

Mary Stuart

📅 19 to 20 January 2027
📍 Comédie de Caen

The official programme begins surprisingly early in the year, reminding visitors that MILLENIUM 2027 is very much a year-long celebration rather than simply a summer festival.

The Tomb of William

📅 12 February 2027
📍 Comédie de Caen

The title alone is enough to catch the attention of anyone interested in Norman history.

William's death, burial and legacy remain subjects of enduring fascination, making this one of the more intriguing theatrical productions in the programme.

North Wind

📅 22 November 2027
📍 Comédie de Caen, Hérouville-Saint-Clair

The official programme continues well into late autumn with North Wind, another theatrical production demonstrating the breadth of MILLENIUM 2027.

One of the nicest surprises while researching these events has been discovering just how much emphasis the organisers have placed on theatre, music and contemporary performance alongside Norman history itself.

HEULAND

Animated Medieval Banquet

📅 15 to 16 May 2027
📍 Prieuré, Heuland

If you've ever wondered what medieval feasting might have been like, this looks set to be one of the more immersive experiences within the official MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

Thankfully, I'm assuming the menu has improved slightly over the last thousand years. Medieval dining could be rather adventurous if you happened to be attached to your teeth.

IFS

Corvidae – When Species Gaze at Each Other

📅 29 January 2027
📍 Le Sablier – Centre National de la Marionnette

Not every accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event is rooted directly in medieval history. Contemporary artistic performances such as this demonstrate how the anniversary is inspiring new creative work alongside exhibitions and historical interpretation.

LES MONTS D'AUNAY

Millennium of Grimoult at the Time of William

📅 17 to 18 July 2027
📍 Les Monts d'Aunay

William the Conqueror wasn't the only influential Norman noble shaping events during the eleventh century.

This weekend explores the story of Grimoult, placing his life within the wider world of ducal Normandy and offering visitors another perspective on the people who shaped the region's history.

It's exactly the sort of event I enjoy finding in the official programme. It broadens the story beyond the familiar names and rewards those prepared to venture a little further across Normandy.

LISIEUX

Lisieux is best known internationally for Saint Thérèse, yet its history stretches much further back. During MILLENIUM 2027 the town becomes another important stop within the celebrations, combining theatre with longer-running exhibitions.

Guillaume & Harold

📅 16 April 2027
📍 Théâtre Lisieux Normandie

The travelling production continues its journey across Normandy, giving visitors another opportunity to experience one of the flagship performances of MILLENIUM 2027.

APPLES

📅 30 April to 20 September 2027
📍 Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Lisieux

Normandy and apples have been inseparable for centuries, so it's rather fitting to see them finding a place within the official programme.

Let's be honest, a celebration of Normandy without mentioning apples would feel a little suspicious. Cider, calvados and apple orchards are woven into everyday life here.

Cinema Concert: The Vikings

📅 15 November 2027
📍 Lisieux

The Viking story returns once more through this atmospheric cinema concert, combining film and live music to explore the Scandinavian roots of Normandy.

Long before William the Conqueror, Viking settlers transformed this region forever. Their influence still echoes through place names, traditions and even everyday language, making this a fitting addition to the MILLENIUM 2027 programme.

MALTOT

Inter-Norman Béhourd Tournament

📅 1 to 2 July 2027
📍 Château de Maltot

If watching armoured fighters enthusiastically clatter into one another sounds like your idea of a good afternoon, this could become one of the more memorable weekends of your holiday.

Béhourd has developed a loyal following across Europe, and a château provides exactly the right backdrop for the competition.

MONDEVILLE

The Betrayed Simplicity

📅 22 January 2027
📍 Théâtre de la Renaissance

The official programme begins early, and theatrical performances such as this demonstrate that MILLENIUM 2027 is just as much a cultural celebration as a historical one.

Stops – In the Footsteps of William the Conqueror

📅 15 to 21 February 2027
📍 Mondeville Town Centre

The title alone immediately appeals to anyone following William's story across Normandy.

If you're building an itinerary around the places connected with William the Conqueror, this looks like an excellent addition to your visit.

MONTFIQUET

The Tale of Renart: A Norman Itinerary

📅 1 May to 30 September 2027
📍 Maison de la Forêt – Isigny-Omaha Tourist Office

Running throughout much of the visitor season, this exhibition explores one of medieval Europe's most enduring literary characters.

The clever fox Renart has entertained audiences for centuries, and it's lovely to see Norman storytelling represented alongside the more familiar tales of William and the Norman Conquest.

Biking Trip – The Tale of Renart: A Norman Itinerary

📅 3 July 2027
📍 Maison de la Forêt – Isigny-Omaha Tourist Office

This cycling event builds on the Renart theme, combining outdoor exploration with medieval literature.

I always like seeing activities that encourage people to experience Normandy's landscapes rather than simply driving between attractions.

OUISTREHAM

The Normans in Sicily

📅 15 to 16 May 2027
📍 Église Saint-Samson

One of the nicest aspects of MILLENIUM 2027 is its willingness to look beyond Normandy itself.

The Norman story didn't stop at the English Channel. Southern Italy and Sicily became home to another remarkable Norman chapter, and this event explores that wider European legacy.

Crossed Views on William the Conqueror

📅 1 to 30 September 2027
📍 Granges aux Dîmes

Returning to the question of how William has been viewed over the centuries, this exhibition offers visitors another opportunity to explore the many interpretations of one of Europe's most influential rulers.

PONT-L'ÉVÈQUE

Traces, Echoes of the Norman Heritage

📅 5 June to 25 September 2027
📍 Les Dominicaines, Centre d'Art et Artothèque

Heritage isn't only preserved in stone buildings. Artists continue finding fresh ways to interpret Normandy's remarkable past, and this exhibition is another good example of that continuing conversation between history and creativity.

TROUVILLE-SUR-MER

Anglo-Norman or Neo-Norman Architecture? From the Côte Fleurie to the Conquest of the World

📅 20 March to 19 September 2027
📍 Musée Villa Montebello

If architecture is your thing, this could easily become one of the highlights of your MILLENIUM 2027 itinerary.

The influence of Norman building styles spread astonishingly far, and this exhibition explores how those ideas continued evolving long after the medieval period itself had ended.

Valambray

Route at the Heart of the Battle of Val ès Dunes

📅 22 May 2027
📍 Tour de Valmeray

Walking the landscapes where history unfolded is always more rewarding than simply reading about them.

This guided route explores one of the most significant battles in William's early career, helping visitors understand why Val ès Dunes mattered so much.

Told Itineraries – At the Heart of the Battle Landscapes

📅 1 to 27 June 2027

Sometimes standing where history actually happened tells you far more than any museum display ever could.

VARAVILLE

Varaville and the Dukes of Normandy

📅 15 July 2027
📍 Church Forecourt, Varaville

The Dukes of Normandy left their mark across the region, and this event explores another piece of that much wider story.

It's a good reminder that MILLENIUM 2027 reaches well beyond the biggest towns and most famous castles.

These are the official accredited MILLENIUM 2027 events currently announced for Calvados. As with the La Manche listings above, I'll continue updating this guide whenever new events are confirmed, helping it remain one of the most comprehensive English-language resources for planning a MILLENIUM 2027 holiday.

VILLY-BOCAGE

Resonances: Historical Links, Artistic Correspondences

📅 5 November 2027
📍 Villy-Bocage

One of the final events in the official programme, Resonances explores the dialogue between history and contemporary artistic expression.

That's something I've really enjoyed about MILLENIUM 2027 as a whole. It doesn't simply look backwards. It asks how Norman history continues to inspire artists, musicians, writers and communities today, ensuring the anniversary feels alive rather than simply commemorative.

Planning Your MILLENIUM 2027 Holiday

By now you've probably noticed something.

MILLENIUM 2027 isn't one festival, one exhibition or one big weekend.

It's hundreds of accredited events spread across many months, dozens of towns and an extraordinary variety of historic sites, theatres, castles, abbeys, museums and outdoor spaces.

That's fantastic news for visitors because it means you don't have to squeeze everything into one frantic itinerary.

In fact, I'd recommend doing exactly the opposite.

One thing I've learnt from living here is that Normandy rewards people who leave a little breathing space in their plans.

You might head to Bayeux for a morning event and unexpectedly spend another couple of hours wandering the old streets. A visit to Hambye Abbey somehow turns into lunch in a village café before a scenic drive home through roads you hadn't intended to take. You stop to photograph a church and end up discovering a local market that wasn't on your itinerary at all.

That's Normandy.

Some of our guests arrive with military-grade spreadsheets listing every attraction by the hour. Two days later they're happily abandoning the schedule because somebody in a bakery recommended a village they've never heard of.

I quietly enjoy watching that happen.

MILLENIUM 2027 gives you plenty of reasons to make plans. Normandy then gently encourages you to ignore a few of them.

Building an Itinerary That Actually Works

Rather than trying to race between every headline event, I'd suggest choosing two or three major MILLENIUM 2027 experiences and then building relaxed days around them.

For example, if you're visiting Bayeux, don't simply watch the event and leave. Spend time exploring the old town, enjoy lunch, visit the cathedral and wander the medieval streets before heading back.

If you're travelling to Hambye, combine the abbey with nearby La Lucerne and enjoy one of my favourite historic day trips in La Manche.

Heading towards Granville? Give yourself enough time to explore the Upper Town, the harbour and perhaps even stay for dinner while the evening light settles over the sea.

One of the nicest things about staying in La Manche is that you're rarely committed to a rigid timetable. Most of these destinations are straightforward day trips, leaving you free to enjoy the event without feeling you need to rush away immediately afterwards.

Don't Forget the Rest of Normandy

Although this guide concentrates on official MILLENIUM 2027 events, remember that everyday Norman life carries on around them.

Village markets still appear every week.

Summer fêtes continue filling village squares.

Local food festivals still celebrate everything from apples to oysters.

Traditional religious celebrations continue just as they have for generations.

Sometimes you'll enjoy a major MILLENIUM 2027 exhibition in the morning before stumbling across a village festival completely by accident that afternoon.

Personally, I think those unexpected discoveries often become the stories people remember longest.

If You'd Like More Background...

This page deliberately concentrates on the events themselves.

If you'd like to understand the history behind them, I've written a series of guides exploring William the Conqueror, medieval Normandy and the remarkable story that eventually became MILLENIUM 2027.

Taken together, they tell the wider story behind many of the events listed above without turning this page into a history textbook. I suspect we've all had enough of those.

Looking for Somewhere to Stay?

If you're planning to explore both La Manche and Calvados during MILLENIUM 2027, one of the biggest decisions isn't which events to visit.

It's where to base yourself.

I'm obviously biased, but I genuinely think western Normandy makes enormous sense.

From our countryside gîte near Coutances you can comfortably explore much of both departments, then return to peaceful surroundings instead of another evening searching for city-centre parking or sitting in queues.

Many of the places featured in this guide are easy day trips from here, including Coutances, Hambye, Granville, Pirou, Lessay, Bayeux, Caen, Falaise, Mont-Saint-Michel and countless villages that rarely appear in international guidebooks.

After a busy day exploring MILLENIUM 2027, it's rather nice returning to open countryside, a barbecue, birdsong, and the occasional curious llama wondering whether you've brought snacks.

Priorities.

I'll Keep This Guide Updated

MILLENIUM 2027 is still growing.

New accredited events continue to be announced across Normandy, so I'll keep returning to this page throughout 2026 and 2027 to add new exhibitions, performances, festivals, talks, family activities and cultural events as they're confirmed.

If you're planning a holiday around the celebrations, it's worth checking back from time to time.

And if you happen to spot that I've missed an officially accredited MILLENIUM 2027 event in La Manche or Calvados, do let me know.

I'd much rather spend an evening updating this guide than discover six months later that an entire medieval festival has quietly sneaked past me while I was distracted by cider, cake or llamas.

Actually, the cake might still win 🎂🦙
